About Scholar Damian Jacob Sendler, the European and North American psychiatric and forensics research scientist

Damian Jacob Sendler Official

Damian Jacob Sendler is the mental health research scientist, specializing in studying forensics, community psychiatry, digital epidemiology, and sexual health. As a Polish-American scholar, DJS has a unique perspective on conducting cross-sectional research, combining talents in the medical and social sciences.

Damian Jacob Sendler began his research career by systematically studying highly unusual sexual behaviors, termed paraphilias – most importantly zoophilia, consensual sadomasochism, and Eastern European sexual offenders. This work has allowed DJS to delve into describing the psychological mechanisms of some of the most unusual – and most debilitating – mental health conditions. The work in forensics has paved a way for him to go further and apply this knowledge to continue research on the development of e-therapy for individuals with unusual sexual interests. Most recently, DJS has begun to look at how other groups of people experiencing distress due to depression and post-traumatic stress could benefit from these types of therapies.

Sendler has published nearly two dozen original research articles, over 40 research abstracts and has attended over twenty international research conferences in the last five years, where he was a guest speaker. DJS’s research has been widely popular with audiences from around the world because his work seeks to understand a wide range of important topics influencing mental health. He is among a handful of scientists to diligently apply the knowledge and practice of digital epidemiology to study how the Internet influences mental health and health information-seeking behavior.

Sendler’s research has been featured in numerous live television newscasts, podcasts, radio shows, and two documentaries. Damian Jacob Sendler frequently presents his research at the world’s most eminent research conferences for mental health scientists, most lately at the World Congress of Psychiatry, the European Congress of Psychiatry, and the American Psychiatric Association annual meeting.
